The Importance of Goal Setting

What is the importance of goal setting when trying to build inner strength?

If you don't have a destination in mind, then how are you going to move ahead?  You need to start with a vision of where you want to go and build from there. 

When you're planning what you want to do with your life, you need self discipline to keep yourself motivated and on track. 

Lets say you're about to go on a road trip across the country.  To get started you will need a plan and a map.  You schedule stops at some of the national parks and other landmarks. 

Instead of following the map, you decide to turn off in another direction because you think it will get you to your destination.  After a few hours, you become hopelessly lost and have no idea how to get back.  Because you didn't follow your map, you never reached your goal.

As you can see, without a plan to follow, you end up wandering through life.  That's why the importance of goal setting plays a major role in your future.  To get to your destination, you need to focus on your goals.  

In order to do this, you need a success mindset.  This is where you envision where you want to be in the future. And give yourself a good dose of achievement motivation to reach your goals.

After you've set your goals, you need to start training yourself to build self discipline. This is where you need to determine which goal you want to focus your attention on.

Sometimes it's hard to be motivated when you would rather avoid the work.  If you've come upon a roadblock, then take a break and then return to it later.  You'll feel refreshed and more willing to tackle the obstacles. 

When you finally get through the hard part you'll feel good about yourself and can move forward to accomplish what you set out to do.

One of the best things to do is to surround yourself with those that want to be successful themselves.  You'll start to pick up their positive vibes.  When you're around positive people, you will become positive. 

Likewise, when you hang out with the naysayers, you'll only feel the negative vibes and this will only drag you down.

Learn to ignore the things that don't contribute towards your dreams.  Many of these activities will sidetrack you and sap you of your strength.  So, drop them.  This will free you up to to spend more time doing the things that will help you reach your goals.

  • Believe that your dreams exist.  Imagine they are real.  Put up a picture or something that you will be reminded of your dream all the time.

  • Keep working on improving your technique.  Repeat the process until it's part of you.


  • Work smarter not harder.  If you need help, then seek it out.


  • Take time off.  Do something different.  You'll be refreshed when you begin again.


  • Always take small breaks throughout the day.  Stretch, have a cup of tea, go for a walk.


  • Give yourself a pat on the back with each success.  Apply what you've learned towards the next goal.


  • Eat right and exercise regularly.  It's important to keep yourself healthy.


  • Keep the momentum of self-discipline going.  Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses.


By ignoring the time wasting activities, you build up your resolve to move forward in pursuit of the things that will bring you success.
